Chess Club (TK-12th)
The Chess Club is a social (non-competitive) chess club meeting the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month from 11:30 A.M. – 12:30 P.M. in the Warehouse. There will be no formal instruction, experienced players will mentor those who are new to playing the game. The goal of the Chess Club is to give the students an opportunity to meet new friends while learning about chess and improving their chess skills. Journalism Club (TK-8th)
The Journalism Club produces the school newspaper. Elementary students grades TK-8th who participate in the Journalism Club are assigned article topics and given deadlines to meet. Students conduct interviews, conduct research, take pictures, and write articles with the guidance of the parent/guardian. Students also assist in taking and gathering pictures for the annual yearbook. This club requires parent/guardian participation as well as access to a computer and the internet. All assignment topics, deadlines and article submissions are coordinated in the VOCS Journalism Club Facebook Group or via email.

Junior ASB (7th & 8th)- 2022-2023 Coming soon with Ms. Bryant!
The Valley Oaks, Jr. High School ASB consists of elected members as well as student volunteers. The main focus of Jr. ASB is community
service projects. All 7th and 8th grade students are welcome to be part of the Jr. ASB either as an elected official or student volunteer.
Also, the Jr. ASB plans and promotes many activities for the students that are meant to be either a free or reasonably-cost event to
promote school culture.

Sports and Fitness Club (TK-8th)
The Sports and Fitness Club was created to give students the opportunity to learn about different sports and fitness related activities in a non-competitive setting. There will be two planned meetings per month in which students learn about a different sport or physical activity. Additional meetings and events may be scheduled dependent on interest and as schedules permit. Parents/Guardians are required to stay and assist their students when needed. Story Writer’s Club (TK-8th)
The Story Writers’ Club was created to give students in grades TK-8th the opportunity to meet and learn about writing basics with a focus on creative writing in a cooperative setting. Students receive information each meeting about a story element or topic upon which the student will focus. The students use different hands on materials, such as story cubes, sticker scenes, story magnets and various other manipulatives to create their stories. Students will work individually and in groups. They will be working towards creating a story that the student will turn into a book. Completed books will have the opportunity to be entered into the Young Authors’ Faire. There is one scheduled meeting per month, however, more meetings may be added as schedules permit. Parents/Guardians are required to stay during the meetings and assist their students when needed. STEAM Club (TK-8th)
The STEAM Club was created to give students the opportunity to participate in hands-on and cooperative learning activities in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. The STEAM Club has one planned meeting per month where hands on or cooperative learning activities will be planned. All students (TK-8) are welcome to join the club.
